About Alsancak

All of the building walls, chosen within the scope of the International İzmir Mural Art Workshop organized for the first time in the third largest city of Turkey, İzmir, by the Metropolitan Municipality, are situated in the Alsancak district. This part of the city, which qualifies as a door opening to the external world both for its geography and its contemporary lifestyle, continues to be one of the most important areas of İzmir in socio-cultural and economic aspects from the past to the present. The district, with its liveliness, having witnessed the history of the city and named “Alsancak” (red flag) during the Republic Period, is densely populated in all hours both by city-dwellers and tourists.

The chosen area is between the Port of İzmir, the Alsancak Ferry Port and the Alsancak Train Station. There are workshops where cultural and artistic activities take place, manufacturing shops, cafes, stores and residences around the buildings situated on the streets extending to the Gulf of İzmir on or around the prestigious areas of the city 1st Kordon (Atatürk Avenue and Kıbrıs Şehitleri Avenue or Gündoğdu Square).

The buildings chosen within the scope of the workshop continue to carry on their activities as residences or as commercial or art studios facilities.
